I wouldn't say it's "out of line" at all.
Obviously, if just focused on the services alone, then yes there are cheaper alternatives.
However, if you are looking for a fun experience, and have the disposable income, then I can see dropping large amounts of cash on someone who pushes your buttons in a good way. It's not like these guys don't know what they are doing. It's also a bit of a mind-fuck to "eat streak at a vegan restaurant".
Happens with strippers as well.
Even some companions have gotten way more than their posted rate from grateful clients with big bank accounts.
When I had the extra cash (several years ago
) I gave my favourite companion a LOT more than she asked for, simply because she rocked my world in a way others couldn't. I was grateful for that, so what I got was priceless to me.
As long as it makes you happy, without sending you into bankruptcy like a bad addiction, then it's all good.
